Protect You Knees with Motorcycle Knee Armor
Riding motorcycles can be a thrilling and liberating experience. These feelings are loved by many, but the excitement comes at a cost of risk to your safety. With appropriate and durable protective gear one can minimize the risks, and enjoy his riding activity better. While helmets and jackets protect the upper body, one needs effective protection for lower body as well. Knees are one of the most sensitive joint in the lower body which needs to be protected using motorcycle knee armor.
Why is it important to Use Reinforced Protection around Knees?
Leather and synthetic pants are tough, durable and do not wear on rubbing. Therefore, they can efficiently protect you against abrasion and road rash. They are also wind proof, so they protect your legs from getting stiff due to the cold weather. They are abrasion resistant, but they don't offer any resistance against impacts. As a result, if your knee smacks into something during a crash it might get fracture costing you weeks or months in the hospital. Joints are most vulnerable against sudden shocks, and if not protected properly they can result in terrible aches or in worst cases bone breakage as well. Therefore, one needs to use and impact absorbing and strong motorcycle knee armor. The armor should adequately defend the shin bone as well as it is thin and susceptible to compressive pressures.
The armor must be made of a material that can disperse the energy of impact, and considerably reduce the force as it reaches the body underneath it. Armor commonly uses high-density foam padding which is very good at absorbing shocks. Make sure that the armor is CE certified, which means that it has been tested and approved for its ability to withstand and mitigate the force of impacts.
Built-in Knee Armor vs. Strapped Motorcycle Knee Armor:
One can get two types of protective armors for their knees. They either come in the form of padding stitched in the inner surface of your pants or you can buy them separately and make use of straps to tie them to your legs.
While built-in knee armors are more comfortable and easier to wear, they have several downsides when compared with strap-on armor:
Adjustability: Built-in knee armors are not as adjustable as strap-ons. People who have shorter legs often face difficulty in finding ready-made padding for their knees. Strap-ons make use of elasticized straps that will fit well with the shape and size of the leg.
Reliability: Strap-on motorcycle knee armor is more reliable because it doesn't easily change its position with body movement and keep fulfilling the duty of guarding your knee caps. On the other hand, the built-in one is designed for riding positions only. They are not very good at covering the knees for other positions.
Flexibility: With strap-on armors you can easily remove them when you are done riding, but the built-in ones are not removable. Also, strap-on motorcycle knee armor can improve the protection and security offered by even your summer riding pants or your regular work pants. They can be easily used with any pant. Padded pants don't offer you such flexibility.
